In Greg ’Craola’ Simkins’ paintings phantasmagoric characters play the leading role. Each and every one of them came out as a product of the artist’s imagination, but seemingly they are all becoming alive on the canvas and continuing to live the life of their own. Altogether they create such a jolly little crew made out of exotic animal hybrids, humanized herbals, tattooed lemons, cartoon drawings, octopus-like clocks, and various other inspirational sensations. And they are all together going to be presented within the solo exhibition titled Beyond Shadows, which shows Greg’s newest artworks at the KP Projects/ MKG Gallery in Los Angeles.

While walking through the show we noticed some new stylings to some of the pieces while others featured some of the original “street” style which made “Craola” first popular among the urban art collectors. The new styling we liked the most was the use of pure white background for a majority of the pieces in this show. The white background allowed the viewer to focus on the character in the painting which in itself has many details and possible companions to also observe.

The show, as in previous Greg Simkins shows, was a sell-out not just in the main gallery of his painting but also in the secondary gallery featuring his “Drip Script” artwork. The lucky few were able to add these wonderful pieces into their collection.
